About I.S.D.S./ Austrian Chapter

History

I.S.D.S. – the International Society for Digestive Surgery – is actually being re-structured and will consist of several Federations, each of them comprising National Chapters.
The Austrian Chapter was already founded in 2000 by Karl Glaser, M.D., Prof., and Peter Lechner, M.D., Prof. as a successor to the Austrian Section of C.I.C.D. (Collgium Internationale CHirurgiae Digestivae) Almost all of Its members hold Fellowship in the Austrian Society of Surgery, and this is why the latter named I.S.D.S./ Austrian Society an Associated Society in 2007.
From 2010 on, the Annual Mediterranean Conferences of EF-I.S.D:S./ Austrian Chapter will be organised in close co-operation with the Academy for Continuing Surgical Education of the Austrian Society of Surgery.

The Annual Mediterranean Conference

The Annual Mediterranean Conference took place in 2000 on the Isle of Rhodes/ Greece for the first time.
Among the 38 participants was Ron Hinder, M.D., Prof., head of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic. He, like many others, encouraged us to establish a new forum of surgical education, based on state-of-the-art-lectures given by invited key speakers, and case-reports. Much room is given to in-depth- discussions to allow knowledge transfer between experts and other participants. As only a few topics are addressed during a whole week, there is no need to interrupt discussion after a few minutes, and this is what makes the concept unique. Participants earn approx. 40 CME credits (5 - 7 per day of attendance).
The following Conferences were held in Sicily (2001), Mallorca (2002), Crete (2003), Cyprus (2004), Kos/Greece (2006), Spain (2007), Sardinia/Italy (2008) and on the Island of Brac/Croatia (2005, 2009 and 2010).
Though the conference language is German, presentations in English have frequently been given, and colleagues from other countries are cordially invited to provide their expertise!

Co-Operations

Depending on the addressed topics, E.F.-I.S.D.S./ Austrian Chapter invites speakers from other Societies like Austrian Society of Coloproctology (ACP), Austrian Society of Surgical Endoscopy (AEC), Austrian Society of Surgical Oncology (ACO-ASSO), European Federation of coloRectal Surgery (EFR), Austrian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (OeGGH), and others.
